SCB and Nexight Group Host Third Regenerative Medicine Standards Webinar

Washington, DC (June 29, 2018) — On June 26, 2018, SCB and Nexight group hosted an informative webinar, featuring five presenters, focused on Regenerative Medicine Standards Development Processes and how the community can get involved.

SCB’s Senior Operations Program Manager, Allison Getz, kicked off the webinar by reviewing principles of standard development and the benefits of regenerative medicine therapy standards. Claudia Zylberberg, CEO of Akron Biotech and SCB board member, followed Getz’s presentation by sharing how standards can improve relevance of products, increase trade, improve efficiency, and reduce the cost of product development in industry. Judith Arcidiacono, International Regulatory Expert and Standards Liaison, Office of Tissue and Advanced Therapies, Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, U.S. Food & Drug Administration, then provided insight into how the use of standards can reduce the cost of product development, improve technical coordination among experts, and improve analysis to differentiate products or therapies. Following Arcidiacono, Sumona Sarkar, Biomedical Engineer at NIST, shared her insights into how becoming engaged in the standards development process can reduce time to market, facilitate communications, and lower barriers for interacting with key service providers for translational researchers. Lastly, SCB’s Senior Technical Program Manager, Dawn Henke, reviewed the current state of the standards development process and how SCB intends to support and improve this process.
