SCB Seeks Expert Input for ASTM Tissue Engineering Lexicon Update

Since 2011, ASTM F2312, Standard Terminology Related to Tissue Engineered Medical Products has served as the lexicon for the tissue engineering field. As the field has evolved rapidly over the past decade, so too has its terminology as technology advances and new specializations emerge. To ensure currency of this important industry resource, SCB has joined forces with ARMI|BioFabUSA to update the lexicon.

Why Update the Lexicon?

ASTM F2312 is an indispensable resource for standardizing terminology throughout the tissue engineering field and helping to align communication with other regenerative medicine sectors. Therefore, it is critical to periodically review the lexicon to ensure it is up to date with current terms; out-of-date terms can impede clear communication and also impact a product's classification and whether or not it qualifies for certain expedited regulatory pathways.

New Inputs

SCB will incorporate input from experts in the working group as well as the broader regenerative medicine community to ensure that the updated standard reflects real-world use of tissue engineering terms, includes new tissue engineering technologies, and aligns with other commonly used resources in the tissue engineering field.

Get Involved

SCB is assembling a working group to contribute to the update of the standard and is seeking experts from all regenerative medicine sectors to share input on how they use tissue engineering terminology in their work. To get involved and provide your input, contact SCB.
