Standards Coordinating Body (SCB) Overview

The Standards Coordinating Body for Regenerative Medicine (SCB) connects the regenerative medicine community to the standards development process. As an unbiased non-profit organization [501( c)3], SCB is uniquely positioned to ensure that the stakeholders from academia, government, and industry have a say in the standards that will impact them as the technologies, business and practice of regenerative medicine grow. With buy-in from a range of stakeholder organizations from across the regenerative medicine community, SCB continues to pursue its mission to: Coordinate the accelerated advancement and improved awareness of standards and best practices that address the rapidly evolving needs of the global regenerative medicine industry.

Job Summary

We are looking for a full time Executive Director to join our team, reporting directly to the President of the SCB. In this role, you will partner with the full committee and Board of Directors to successfully lead and manage SCB so the organization can achieve its strategic direction. The Executive Director will engage with and coordinate efforts of SCB staff, Board Members and committees, and volunteers; manage the organization’s administration, budget, marketing, and fundraising; and ensure a positive organizational culture. SCB is a dynamic and growing organization and a critical role of the Executive DIrector will be to develop a strategic roadmap in close collaboration with all stakeholders to ensure theSCB’s long term sustained growth.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Strategic Execution

  • Develop a multiyear strategic roadmap and associated annual plans in collaboration with SCB’s Executive Committee and implement the plan to execute, monitor, and communicate progress of SCB’s projects and activities in support of its strategy.

  • Refine SCB’s strategic and business plans on a regular basis, in partnership with the Board, to ensure relevance and optimize plan success.

  • Coordinate and guide SCB’s portfolio of activities, projects, and other initiatives to enable their successful execution.

Funding, Budget, and Administration

  • Cultivate opportunities for sustainable funding via industry partnerships, government contracts and awards, philanthropic contributions. Leverage those opportunities to secure funding for sustained growth of SCB.

  • Establish a funding pipeline, and develop and deliver proposals, applications, or other pitches for funding.

  • Administer general responsibility for the ongoing financial viability of the organization, including developing, proposing and managing annual budget.

  • As delegated by SCB’s Executive Committee, represent SCB in negotiations with vendors, partners, government agencies, and others to create contract terms that would be most effective and advantageous for SCB.

Management

  • Lead, manage, and guide the professional development of SCB staff; overseeing and supporting their implementation of SCB activities and projects.

  • Design, develop, implement, and continuously improve consistent approaches and practices for executing SCB’s mission in partnership with staff and with approval from the Executive Committee.

  • Support a healthy and strong organizational culture that includes support of and compliance with organizational best practices and applicable regulations.

  • Support the implementation of the SCB Board of Director’s annual strategic and budget-planning process through attendance at all Board meetings. Coordinate the preparation, implementation, and timely follow-up from those meetings.

Communications and Coordination

  • Represent SCB as a speaker or participant at community events or other activities to enhance SCB’s profile and enable implementation of its mission.

  • Develop and maintain beneficial relationships with funders, partners, collaborators, advisors, vendors, and other stakeholders to support and advance the implementation of SCB’s mission.

  • Foster effective teamwork with and coordinate activities of the SCB Board, Executive Committee, Sector Working Groups, the Advisory Committee for Standards Coordination, and staff.

  • Ensure effective external and internal communications. Support the development and maintenance of a strong SCB brand.

  • Identify and inform the Executive Committee and the Board of internal and external developments that affect the organization or accomplishment of its strategic plan.

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree and at least 15 years of relevant professional experience, including:

    • Managing and growing a team or organization including its related staffing and budget

    • Experience in cell or gene therapy, tissue engineering, or a related scientific or technical field

  • Non-profit management, marketing, or fundraising experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated success in:

    • Building organizational partnerships with a large range of stakeholders from industry, government and non-government organizations– both formal and informal

    • Negotiation and facilitation; including collaboration and consensus-building

    • Developing, monitoring, and achieving strategic objectives

    • Team building within an organization to achieve cross-functional goals

    • Managing a start-up organization, growing an organization, or leading an organization through change.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, high cultural awareness, and multidisciplinary project experience

  • Self-directed and solution-oriented

 Location & Travel

  • Washington, DC metropolitan area

  • Travel expectations: 25-50% both nationally and internationally (pre-pandemic estimate to be adjusted as scientific and business event schedules readjust to new normal)
